Mark Foster

Before teaching, Mark served in the Royal Navy as a Marine Engineer and also worked in the pharmaceutical industry based in Teesside. On joining the teaching profession in 2006 he spent his first three years teaching Maths at King James 1st Community Arts College in Bishop Auckland leading KS3 and KS5.

In 2009 Mark joined Sedgefield Community College as the Subject Leader of Mathematics transforming the department into one of the top performing departments in the area. From 2011 Mark took on the responsibility of both the Maths and Science departments, introducing academic curriculums and improving the quality of teaching and learning. When promoted to Deputy Headteacher in 2014, Mark continued to line manage both of these departments and today, they are recognised amongst the top performing departments in the country.

As a Deputy Headteacher at Sedgefield Community College, Mark has managed significant capital build projects and led student behaviour, attendance and safeguarding. More recently Mark began working for the DfE on the Behaviour Hubs project supporting up to ten schools across the country. Immediate impact has been evidenced in the partner schools and has recently contributed to very positive OFSTED outcomes.

In January 2022 Mark joined the LST central team as the Executive School Improvement Lead for Behaviour and Welfare. He currently supports the three secondary phase academies within the trust and continues to support other schools across the country with his work through the Behaviour Hubs project.
