On Wednesday 2nd July, Laidlaw Schools Trust brought together students from across its secondary academies for the first-ever Year 7 Olympics, held at Oxclose Community Academy in partnership with Go Well.

The event featured a comprehensive programme of activities, including football, futsal, rugby, cricket, athletics and frisbee, designed to engage students in a variety of sports and encourage teamwork and healthy competition.

Pupils demonstrated strong sportsmanship throughout the day, representing their schools with pride and supporting their peers.

Two students from each school were recognised for consistently demonstrating one of our 7 core Trust values, so congratulations to all of our award winners:

Ambitious – Ollie from Academy 360

Ollie has seized every opportunity to represent the school across a range of sports. His ambition knows no bounds, he plays in a team a year above his age group to challenge himself and accelerate his development. Ollie’s drive to improve and his determination to become the best football player he can be truly reflects the spirit of ambition.

Brave – Ava from Excelsior

Ava began the day feeling a little nervous, but watching her come out of her shell and connect with other pupils has been inspiring. Despite not knowing how her sport worked at first, she embraced the challenge with bravery and has grown in confidence. It’s been incredible to see her realise just how great she is.

Curious – Eva from Sedgefield

Eva approaches every activity with an outstanding attitude and a thirst for knowledge. She is always asking thoughtful questions and seeking out opportunities to learn more. Open-minded and inquisitive, Eva is determined to do her best and works hard to continually improve.

Determined – Julian from Academy 360

Julian demonstrates exceptional determination through his involvement in multiple sports. He has represented Academy 360 with pride, plays rugby outside of school, and takes part in a variety of extracurricular activities. His dedication to becoming the best athlete he can be is evident in his consistent pursuit of excellence.

Extraordinary – Jayden from Oxclose

As today’s football team captain, Jayden has been a true role model, not only to his teammates but also to pupils from across the Trust. His leadership and positive influence reflect the extraordinary qualities we value so highly.

Extraordinary – Archie from Sedgefield

Archie is a high achiever in a wide range of sports, including football and athletics. This year alone, he has set school records and achieved multiple team and individual successes. With a strong work ethic, resilience and determination, Archie consistently goes above and beyond. He is a leader, a role model and truly extraordinary in every way.

Fast – Kiera from Excelsior

Kiera is a consistently excellent student and today was no exception. Her ability to listen carefully and react quickly has helped her learn new skills with impressive speed. She’s agile, focused and always ready for the next challenge.

Good – Summer from Oxclose

Summer has shown outstanding leadership and maturity during today’s football sessions. She’s led her group through warm-ups and tactical discussions with confidence and we couldn’t be prouder of her development and contribution.

This event was delivered successfully thanks to the collaboration and commitment of numerous staff members, including PE teams, support staff, volunteers and event coordinators. The Trust acknowledges and thanks all those involved.
